London weirdos

London attracts weirdos in a big way. I try and hang around the tourist spots a few times a month since there are often very entertaining things happening. Usually this is in the form of Street Performers or other people doing things for money.
For many months now I kept bumping into one specific guy that always hang around Piccadilly and areas but never had a camera with me to capture him. Tonight I did and finally got some shots of him. He started off standing with a board with the words “Odd Erection” printed on it in many different languages, with a weird picture. Eventually he started wearing a tshirt with the same on. Thesedays you will often find him talking to tourists who obviously cannot help asking what the story is. I too asked him what is going on and he told me he just has nothing better to do, other people claim he told them he is a art student. Regardless, he has been a constant London peculiarity now for 8 or so months.
Here he is with his old card board, he also got a mention here and on some other places.
Click these thumbnails for my shots of him tonight

Google search tips

For those who don’t have a copy of Google Hacks there is a nifty page that lists plenty of nifty things you can do with google searches.

You can specify most of the Advanced Search page options in a regular search box query by using advanced operators, i.e., query words that have special meaning to Google. Since the advanced operators are convenient for searching, Google Guide calls them “search operators.” Most users find that making use of the Advanced Search page, instead of using search operators directly, fulfills their specialized search needs. Search operators tend to be used by people who prefer to type commands rather than filling in forms.

D70 Firmware Update

Nikon today released updated firmware in all its regions for the D70. The firmware is user updatable and fixes the following issues.

Issues addressed with A firmware version 1.01
– Images captured in Continuous mode at high shutter speeds sometimes displayed vignetting in upper portions of the image. This problem has been corrected.
– When the built-in Speedlight was in its raised position but did not fire, the Automatic Sensitivity Adjustment function (ISO Auto: CSM 5) sometimes failed. This problem has been corrected.
Issues addressed with B firmware version 1.02
– The camera now supports CompactFlash™ memory cards with a capacity greater than 4GB.
– When images were captured in Continuous mode at an Image size setting of M and an Image quality setting of FINE, the memory card access lamp sometimes glowed continuously and the camera could not be turned off with the power switch. This problem has been corrected.
– Text errors in display of Chinese menus and messages have been corrected

American copy of the firmware here. European users will have to register with the Nikon site and then enter the camera serial number. Once this is done you will see the files in the support site. People on the forums say that the firmware files are identical regardless of the country you get them from.
